The whistle (vent weight) on its own for Butterfly outer-lid pressure cookers: the metal weight with a black knob that sits on the vent tube of the lid. Butterfly's box says it suits all Butterfly outer-lid cookers; it does not fit Butterfly inner-lid cookers.
When the cooker reaches pressure the weight lifts and lets steam out: that is the whistle. Replace it when it is lost, dented or bent, or when the whistle comes late or not at all even after cleaning.
This is the weight only. If the vent tube on your lid is damaged or loose, order the Butterfly whistle set, which comes with the tube. Clean the weight and the tube regularly so they do not clog.
Valves and whistles regulate pressure. A stuck or corroded one is the commonest reason a cooker either will not build pressure or vents at the wrong point.
