The dome is the housing that holds the blade shaft at the base of the jar; the gasket is the rubber seal that sits between the dome and the jar base and keeps liquid inside. Supplied together as a set so the seal and the seating face are matched — no mixing a new dome with a hardened old gasket. The 1.5 litre jar is the wet grinding jar, used for idli and dosa batter, coconut chutney, gravies, purées, juices, shakes and large-quantity masalas. Its dome takes the heaviest and wettest load of any jar on the machine. Replace the set when liquid seeps from the base of the jar during or after grinding, when you find wet residue under the jar, when the dome is cracked, corroded or the blade wobbles in it, or when the gasket has gone hard, flat, sticky or torn.
The coupler is the rubber or nylon drive piece between the motor shaft and the jar. It is meant to fail before the motor does, so it is the first thing to check when a jar spins slowly or slips.
