Bergner's stainless steel safety valve, part SPR-108. The Bergner pack lists all sizes of the Trimax, Sorrento, Pura and Pura Globe outer lid cookers. Bergner's online shop adds the Argent Classic and Argent Avinash, and says it is not for the Argent Elements.
The safety valve is a back-up on the lid: if steam cannot escape through the vent, it lets the pressure out. Replace it when it leaks or is damaged.
Check before you order: it comes as a steel nut with one flat side, a threaded body with a hole through the centre, and a clear washer, as in the photo. The Argent Classic's resettable valve (SPR-180) and the Argent Avinash valve (SPR-136) are separate parts. If the safety valve lets steam out while you cook, turn off the flame and let the cooker cool fully before you open it.
Valves and whistles regulate pressure. A stuck or corroded one is the commonest reason a cooker either will not build pressure or vents at the wrong point.
