The safety valve for Futura hard anodised pressure cookers from 2 to 9 litre, in the Futura pack (code SVF). Hawkins supplies it with its washer.
It is a back-up to the pressure regulator: if the pressure rises too high, its centre fuses and lets the steam out. Replace it once it has fused, leaks or is damaged, and find the cause first. Hawkins names a dry cooker, a blocked steam vent and too high a flame.
Check before you order: Futura Stainless Steel cookers take a different valve (SVFSS), and Hawkins cookers the SV. Hawkins' Futura instructions screw it in with a spanner and a little food-compatible glue on the threads, and say not to reuse the old valve or washer.
Valves and whistles regulate pressure. A stuck or corroded one is the commonest reason a cooker either will not build pressure or vents at the wrong point.
