The whistle (weight) for Preethi pressure cookers, with the Preethi name moulded on its black top. Underneath it has a metal insert with a centre hole, marked R1, as in the photos.
It sits on the vent tube of the lid. When the cooker reaches its working pressure, the weight lifts and lets steam out: that is the whistle. Replace it when the whistle does not come or comes very late, steam escapes all the time, or the weight is cracked, loose or lost.
Check before you order: compare it with your old whistle, including the marking inside. If a cooker keeps heating without whistling, turn off the flame, let it cool fully, and do not force the lid open.
