A 7 inch rod thermostat for storage geysers. As in the photo, it has a long metal sensing rod with a pointed tip, on a small black terminal body.
The rod goes into the thermostat pocket of the geyser and senses the water temperature. At the set temperature it cuts power to the heating coil, and it switches the coil on again as the water cools. Replace it when the geyser stays cold, overheats, or does not cut off. A burnt coil can show similar signs, so have it tested first.
