These are the rubber bushes that hold the motor inside the body of the machine. They carry the motor's weight, absorb its vibration, and keep it correctly aligned so the shaft runs true through the coupler. They do more work than their size suggests. A mixer motor spins at very high speed and generates constant vibration. When the grommets harden or crumble with age, that vibration goes straight into the housing instead of being absorbed — the machine gets much louder, starts walking across the counter, and the motor sits slightly out of alignment. Misalignment then chews through couplers, wears the bearings and puts strain on the shaft. Replace the grommets when the mixer has become noticeably noisier or rattles under load, when it vibrates hard or moves across the counter while grinding, when the motor feels loose or shifts inside the body, when couplers are wearing out unusually fast, or when the rubber is visibly hardened, cracked, flattened or crumbling.
