The safety valve for Pigeon aluminium pressure cookers with an outer lid. It fits in its own hole in the lid; the valve in the photo has a metal top, a black rubber washer and a hex nut underneath.
It is the cooker's backup release: if the vent is blocked and the pressure keeps rising, the safety valve lets the steam out. Replace it after it has blown, if steam leaks from it, or if its washer is hard or cracked. Never plug the hole or use the cooker without the valve.
